Prof. Dr. Didier Fouarge studied Economics at the Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix (FUNDP) in Namur, Belgium. He earned his PhD from Tilburg University with a dissertation on poverty dynamics and social policy in Europe.
He is Director of the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA) at Maastricht University and Program Leader of ROA’s research program on “Labor Market and Training.” He also holds the Chair in “Dynamics of Skill Allocation” at the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University. He has been working at ROA since 2007 and has been a member of its management team since 2014.
His work has been published in journals such as Labour Economics, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, British Journal of Industrial Relations, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Papers in Regional Science, Applied Economics, The International Journal of Manpower, LABOUR, De Economist, The International Journal of Human Resource Management, Economics of Innovation and New Technology, Journal of Social Policy, Social Indicators Research, and Journal of Applied Social Science Studies, as well as in Dutch-language journals including ESB, Tijdschrift voor Arbeidsvraagstukken, Tijdschrift voor HRM, and THEMA Hoger Onderwijs.
He is a research fellow at IZA, GSBE, and Netspar, and serves as Secretary of the European Association of Labour Economists (EALE).
His main research interests lie in academic and applied research on career and education choices, labor market dynamics, labor supply decisions (working time, retirement), and human capital and skill development.
