Prof Dr Yuliya Kosyakova

Yuliya Kosyakova is Head of the Research Department on Migration, Integration and International Labour Market Research at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nuremberg (together with Herbert Brücker) and Professor of Migration Research at the University of Bamberg.

Her research focuses on migration, displacement, and integration, with particular emphasis on wartime and forced migration, return and circular migration, immigrants’ economic disadvantages and integration processes, the effectiveness of public policies, and broader issues of social inequality and stratification. In recognition of her outstanding scholarly achievements in the early stages of her career, she was awarded the Raymond Boudon Award in 2023. Beyond her research, she is actively engaged in international scientific networks, serving as a Board Member and Secretary/Treasurer of the ISA Research Committee 28 „Social Stratification and Mobility“.

She studied Economics (European Economic Studies, MSc) at the University of Bamberg and received her PhD in Sociology from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence in 2016. From 2011 to 2016, she worked as a research fellow in the ERC-funded international project eduLIFE (“Education as a Lifelong Process – Comparing Educational Trajectories in Modern Societies”) at the EUI’s Department of Political and Social Sciences. She subsequently worked as a research fellow at the IAB (2016–2022) and held lectureships at the University of Bamberg (2020–2022) and the University of Mannheim (2019–2020).
