Das Äquivalenzeinkommen ist das Einkommen, das jedem Mitglied eines Haushalts, wenn es erwachsen wäre und alleine leben würde, den gleichen (äquivalenten) Lebensstandard ermöglichen würde, wie es ihn innerhalb der Haushaltsgemeinschaft hat. Dazu wird das Einkommen des gesamten Haushalts addiert und anschließend aufgrund einer Äquivalenzskala gewichtet. Die Gewichtung richtet sich nach Anzahl und Alter der Personen der Haushaltsgemeinschaft.
